Two NY physicians get a step closer to new ASC approval — 8 things to know

A family practice physician and ophthalmologist are working on a new ambulatory surgery center in Hamburg, N.Y., according to a Buffalo Business First report.

Here are five things to know:

1. The project was filed under Frontier Ambulatory Services Development Company to create the Frontier Center for Ambulatory Surgery.

2. The project leases 7,000 square feet in the facility housing Sharma Family Medicine.

3. The two physicians affiliated with the project are ophthalmologist Vishal Sharma, MD, and family practice physician Nisha Sharma, MD.

4. The ASC would be a multispecialty center and Drs. Sharma and Sharma would be landlord and shareholders of the limited liability company that owns the building.

5. There would be two surgery rooms providing ophthalmology and gastroenterology.

6. Total costs for the center are estimated at $683,000.

7. Dr. Vishal Sharma is expected to perform 723 ophthalmology cases at the new center, shifting his cases away from Sterling Surgical Center where he currently performs procedures. Gastroenterologist Albert Biaz-Ordaz, MD, of Southtowns Gastroenterology, is expected to perform 2,000 procedures there per year.

8. Now the physicians are waiting for the Public Health and Health Planning Council within the DOH to review the project application.
