5 key statistics on healthcare insurance premiums for small businesses

Small business owners are looking for lower healthcare premiums, according to a report in NJ Biz.

The National Association for the Self-Employed conducted a survey on monthly premiums for small businesses. Here are five things to know:

1. For 66 percent of self-employed and micro-businesses, healthcare coverage cost is a major concern.

2. There were 53 percent who said they had “low” or “very low” confidence they’d be able to make healthcare affordable and comprehensive for their employees.

3. More than 23 percent of survey respondents said they are budgeted to spend more than $10,000 on healthcare expenses this year.

4. More than 80 percent of respondents said they did not qualify for the tax subsidies meant to offset or defray the cost of healthcare.

5. Spending on healthcare insurance could hurt the bottom line for small businesses, according to the report, and impede their ability to save, grow and create new jobs.
