New Jersey Internist Accused of Running Medicaid Fraud Scheme
Yousef Masood, MD, an internist practicing in Elizabeth, N.J., has been accused of bilking Medicaid of approximately $1.8 million and allegedly prescribing medication to patients he never saw, according to an NBC report.
Investigators allege Dr. Masood prescribed more than $9 million in Medicaid drugs in 2009, even though he purportedly did not see two-thirds of the patients who came to his medical practice. Dr. Masood claimed he saw patients and prescribed medications while he was allegedly vacationing in various parts of the world. The patients were instead allegedly cared for by three workers at his office who posed as physicians. None of the workers have licenses to practice medicine.
In 2009, Dr. Masood was the physician prescribing the most medications in New Jersey, according to the report.
