Detroit Podiatrist Pleads Guilty to Fraud, Faces 10 Years in Prison
A Detroit podiatrist has pleaded guilty to one count of healthcare fraud after he billed Medicare and Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan thousands of times for a procedure that was never rendered, according to a news release from the Department of Justice.
Errol Sherma, DPM, billed for "nail avulsion" procedures thousands of times for hundreds of different patients from 2003-2006. He now faces a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine.
