APIC Announces Departure of CEO Kathy Warye

The Association for Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology has announced the resignation of CEO Kathy Warye.

The resignation of Ms. Warye, who has led APIC since 2004, becomes effective October 31. Ms. Warye is joining Becton, Dickinson and Company as vice president, infection prevention.

During Ms. Warye's tenure at APIC, the association doubled in size and became a key advisor to federal and state governments and more than 30 healthcare organizations, according to a news release. Ms. Warye spearheaded APIC Vision 2012 and the Targeting Zero initiative, which provide education for reducing of healthcare-associated infections.

"APIC members, staff and associates congratulate Kathy on this significant personal achievement," said APIC 2010 President Cathryn Murphy, RN, PhD, CIC, in the news release. "Under her management, APIC has become a world leader in infection prevention. We are a stronger, more strategic and more successful organization for having had her lead our team. Her transition to a senior global leadership role within the healthcare industry demonstrates the respect with which APIC is held by key healthcare stakeholders around the world."

The APIC board of directors is conducting a national search for a CEO and expects to complete the transition within a period of six months.
