KY Senate Panel May Vote on Bill to Regulate Pain Clinics and Electronically Monitor Prescriptions Next Week

The Kentucky Senate Judiciary Committee may vote next week on a bill that would require pain clinics to be registered and have an account with the state's electronic prescription monitoring system, according to a NECN.com report.

The committee heard from Heather C. Wright, CEO of The Pain Management Treatment Center of the Bluegrass in Lexington, at its meeting today. She said her practice does not dispense controlled substances and would like to require drug testing of every patient. Committee Chair Sen. Tom Jensen (R-London) said he wants to put "pill mills" out of business but does not want to obstruct practices that help people with a need for pain medication.

Sen. Jimmy Higdon (R-Lebanon) authored the bill and said the version before the committee now is the fifth version. He expects to vote on the bill when the committee meets on March 1.
