Knee Cartilage Replacement Patients Could Still Participate in Competitive Sports

A new study, by the Stone Research Foundation to be presented at the 27th Annual Meniscus Transplant Study Group meeting, has found that knee cartilage replacement patients can return to high impact sports without additional damage to the joint.

The study was performed at The Stone Clinic in San Francisco, and it included 67 athletes who were very active before their respective injuries. Each received a knee cartilage transplant and had their most recent follow-up visit ranging from one to 14 years post-surgery.

According to the study, patients reported reduction in pain and improvements in function. Moreover, some patients claimed a return to full competitive sports.
