6 "Firsts" for ASCs in Orthopedics & Spine

Here are six "firsts" for surgery centers related to orthopedics or spine that occurring within the last year.

The Institute for Minimally Invasive Surgery in Dallas
, which is a Meridian Surgical Partners facility, is the first surgery center to purchase the O-Arm Surgical Imaging System, which provides intraoperative CT navigation to improve surgical procedure and reduce the need for revision spine surgery.

Midtown Surgery Center in New York recently because the first surgery center in the state to implement the robotic-assisted MAKOplasty procedure for knee surgery.

Mark Dahl, MD, an orthopedic surgeon with St. Croix Orthopaedics, performed the first outpatient unicompartmental knee replacement at High Pointe Surgery Center in Lake Elmo, Minn., earlier this year.

Lake Surgery Center in West Bloomfield, Mich., an affiliate of NSH Michigan, is the first surgery center to purchase Mazor Robotics' Renaissance system for robotic guidance during spinal surgery.

Thomas Eickman, MD, an orthopedic surgeon with Cornerstone Orthopedics in Wheat Ridge, Colo., performed the first total hip replacement at The Surgery Center at Lutheran in Lakewood, Colo., which is a Pinnacle III facility.

Matthew Rupert, MD, of Pain Treatment Centers of America, became the first pain management physician in Tennessee to implant Boston Scientific's Infinion 16 Percutaneous Lead.
