At the 21st Annual Becker's ASC Conference in Chicago on Oct. 24, Vincent Zeringue, president of Zeringue & Associates, discussed business opportunities and considerations for spine surgical practice in the ASC setting.
Mr. Zeringue focused his presentation on lumbar spine stenosis, as it is a disease that will become largely prevalent in the baby boomer population in the next five to 10 years.
His company conducted a survey to determine what patients and customers want when diagnosed with lumbar spine stenosis.
Here are four things patients diagnosed with lumbar spine stenosis want:
1. Access to services, innovation, procedures and a group of individuals who can treat them and allow them to return back to normal activity.
2. Most patients reported preferring to not have fusion procedures.
3. A reduced operative time.
4. Not having to stay overnight in facilities.
"The customer is the patient," said Mr. Zeringue. "If I can align myself to build a strategy around the customer, I have fulfilled the needs of the ASC."
