AmSurg's profits for the first quarter of 2014 — $17.5 million on revenue of $263.1 million — were down 1.6 percent from first quarter 2013, which the ASC company attributes to the severe winter weather during the quarter, according to a report from the Nashville Business Journal.
"AmSurg's results for the first quarter of 2014, which reflected a 2 percent decline in same-center revenue, were affected materially more by severe winter weather through the quarter than we anticipated in the guidance we established in late February," said AmSurg president and CEO Christopher Holden in a release.
While the company estimated the loss of between 4,000 and 5,000 procedures, Mr. Holden said the total number of lost procedures was approximately double estimates, with winter weather affecting profits at nearly 40 percent of AmSurg's Centers, according to the report.
