The American Medical Association and MATTER, a healthcare technology incubator, are partnering to drive innovation and create a flexible facility for physicians, entrepreneurs, healthcare professionals and industry experts to test new healthcare delivery models.
"Innovation is a key driver in making the health system work better for everyone, and together we can educate and inspire entrepreneurs to deliver technologies that will transform healthcare," said AMA CEO and Executive Vice President James L. Madara, MD. "The AMA's partnership with MATTER will create an environment where entrepreneurs can directly collaborate with and gain insights from physicians and the healthcare community to improve and advance technologies, products and services that will improve the health of the nation."
Here are five things to know about the new collaboration:
1. The groups are developing "The AMA Interaction Studio at MATTER" designed with physical and virtual infrastructure.
2. Physicians and entrepreneurs are able to collaborate to develop new technologies, services and products in the simulated healthcare environment.
3. The AMA Interaction Studio is Chicago-based and plans include a modular furniture and advanced video and audio technologies to better understand workflows and how products and services fit in.
4. Architecture design firm HDR is leading the creation. The studio will inhabit around 450-square-feet of space.
5. This partnership also includes educational workshops, interactive simulations and collaboration to focus on optimizing healthcare, specifically clinician-patient interactions.
"Our goal is to help entrepreneurs identify and understand key challenges in patient care and foster the seeds of innovation that will deliver meaningful solutions for physicians," said Dr. Madara.
