oBand Centers in Tustin is First ASC in CA's Orange County to Perform Surgery Using da Vinci Surgical System

oBand, which operates five outpatient surgery centers in California, Florida and Nevada, has announced its Tustin, Calif., ambulatory surgery center is the first ASC in Orange County, Calif., to perform surgery using the da Vinci Surgical System, according to an oBand news release (doc).

The first surgical case was a hysterectomy performed by Rancho Mission Obstetrics and Gynecology physicians Marsha Granese, MD, and Kathleen Pollock, MD, on Jan. 25.

"Together, these technological advancements provide our surgeons with unparalleled precision, dexterity and control that enable a minimally invasive approach for many complex surgical procedures," said Isaac Verbukh, MD, CEO at oBand, in the release. "We believe the da Vinci System will help us to further enhance outcomes, and purchasing it for the Tustin center is further proof of our commitment to provide our community access to the latest advancements in minimally invasive surgery in an outpatient setting."

The da Vinci Surgical System can be used for a variety of procedures including prostatectomy, hysterectomy, myomectomy and colorectal surgery.

"With the addition of the da Vinci System, oBand Centers bring academic-based medicine and innovation to the outpatient surgery center setting," said Dr. Granese, in the release. "As surgeons, we now have another sophisticated tool that will enhance our precision during surgery and enable us to perform complex gynecologic procedures more effectively and with faster recovery times for our patients."

In 2009, oBand's Beverly Hills center was the first in California to use the robotic-assisted surgery system.
