Several states chose not to expand Medicaid under the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, according to a study from The Commonwealth Fund.
According to the report, the five states that will experience the greatest net losses of federal funds in 2022 as a result of opting out, assuming all other states participate and factoring in federal taxes paid by state residents, are:
1. Texas — $9.21 billion
2. Florida — $5.03 billion
3. Georgia — $2.86 billion
4. Virginia — $2.83 billion
5. North Carolina — $2.59 billion
