Lawrence County Memorial Hospital asks community to help pay off surgery center

Nearly a year after opening its 10,000-square-foot surgery center, Lawrence County Memorial Hospital, is holding a "Retire the Debt" drive to help pay off the more than $400,000 left on its $4.3 million tab for building the center.

LCMH Chief Executive Officer Doug Florkowski told the Lawrenceville, Ill.-based Daily Record that the nearby Lawrence County community has been very encouraging — and accommodating — so far.
"We had tremendous success in our fundraising efforts to build the new surgery center. Through the generous giving of our community and various grant awards, LCMH was fortunate enough to raise close to 90 percent of the $4.33 million dollars it took to build the new surgery center," Mr. Florkowski said.
A great deal of that money, he added, has come from personal donors, which impacts the center's ability to provide care for patients, regardless of the ability to pay.
