General surgeon Dan Benishek, MD, has won the Michigan 1st Congressional District, according to news reports.
Republican Dr. Benishek defeated Democrat Gary McDowell to be named Congressman-elect.
Dr. Benishek graduated from Wayne State Medical School in 1978 and has served as a general surgeon in Michigan's Upper Peninsula since 1983.
