Eastern Niagara hopes new surgery center will boost

Officials with Eastern Niagara Hospital say a new ambulatory surgery center in Lockport, N.Y., will be ready to swing wide its doors by the end of the first quarter, reports Buffalo Business First, after a longer wait than expected.

The 13,500-square-foot center will be at least four years in the making when it opens —the hospital broke ground a year ago, after filing its plans three years before that with the New Your Department of Health.

Originally, the plan was to have the center up and running by last summer.

With closures, Eastern Niagara Hospital apparently experienced a tough 2014, officials with the hospital said, so they're hoping the new center will bring much-needed reprieve to their coffers in 2015.

The center will have four surgical suites and offer in orthopedic procedures, plastic/reconstructive surgery, ophthalmology, general surgery and more.
