David Sasso to Compete in NY/NJ Ironman Triathlon Raising Funds for Prostate Cancer
David Sasso, a personal trainer at Make Time Fitness in Morristown, N.J., is preparing to complete the first New York/New Jersey Ironman Triathlon area to raise money for prostate cancer. Before becoming a personal trainer, Mr. Sasso was a chef and caterer, but has since switched his focus to impart his passion and knowledge for food and exercise to others."I believe in living a healthy lifestyle that tests commitment and motivation," Mr. Sasso says. "I am dedicated to improving each client's lifestyle and fitness in a fun and safe environment."
In the past, Mr. Sasso has raised money for multiple sclerosis awareness, along with his brothers after a sister-in-law was diagnosed with the disorder. His experience riding his bike to raise money for MS was an encouraging factor for him to participate in the Ironman for Duke Cancer Center.
Now, Mr. Sasso has teamed with Zero, a Prostate Cancer Program. He has personal experience with the disease; his father was diagnosed with prostate cancer 16 months ago but after receiving treatment and medical intervention he is now cancer free.
For the past seven months, Mr. Sasso has been training for this upcoming Ironman Triathlon. He incorporates sprint triathlons and a half Ironman race into his training regime, but the routine is nothing new for him. He has completed six full Ironman triathlons, five half Ironman triathlons, six marathons and more than 100 triathlons.
"I hope to continue to raise money for a charity that is important to me and my family — MS, diabetes and prostate cancer," says Mr. Sasso. "My personal goal is to continue to participate in triathlons until I can no longer walk; it's been a way of life for me and my family."
