In a legislative update by California Ambulatory Surgery Association Lobbyist Bryce Docherty, CASA reported anticipated 2014 legislation that would require accredited ambulatory surgery centers to report their data to the California Office of Statewide Health Planning and Development.
This change would only apply to state licensed ASCs and CASA said it continues to work with the Medical Board of California on oversight for accredited and physician-owned ASCs.
The report also anticipates new legislation that would give the state more authority over Medicare-certified ASCs and CASA is working with CDPH and the legislature to ensure these requirements would protect patients but not overburden ASCs.
