The American Academy of Ophthalmology has officially launched its Intelligent Research in Sight Registry, the country's first comprehensive eye disease and condition registry.
The data repository and reporting tool gathers and analyzes patient data from EHRs with the goal of helping physicians improve patient care, reduce costs, speed the processes of large clinical trials, comply with federal payment programs and enhance practice efficiency.
The registry is designed for interoperability with any EHR platform and offers the ability to benchmark at the practice, regional and national levels.
The IRIS Registry is the first data registry in the country specifically geared towards outpatient ophthalmology. Thus far, 2,300 physicians in 47 states are participating in the registry. The registry now holds 5 million patient records, a number which is expected to grow to 20 million within two years.
