According to a new report from Medscape, older physicians are significantly more likely to be in private practice than younger physicians.
Thirty percent of the employed physicians are under the age of 40 while 70 percent are older. At the same time, 88 percent of the self-employed physicians are over the age of 40 and only 12 percent of the self-employed physicians are younger.
However, during their careers 52 percent of physicians say they switched from employment to self-employed private practice.
