Surgery Center of Cleveland to hold open house to support ASC Quality & Access Act of 2013.
The Surgery Center of Cleveland has invited all elected officials and candidates to an open house in an effort to advocate support for the Ambulatory Surgical Center Quality and Access Act of 2013. Senator Jim Tracy recently came to the center during a visit hosted by administrator Marietha Silvers and president of the governing body Seth Ford, MD.
AAAHC seeks public comment on proposed changes.
The Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care has announced that is accepting public comment on its proposed revisions for its 2014 standards. The period of public comment will be open from Sept. 9 to Oct. 8.
Pamlico Capital invests in Physicians Endoscopy.
Pamlico Capital, based in Charlotte, N.C., has invested in ASC management and development company Physicians Endoscopy. Physicians Endoscopy currently owns and manages 29 facilities in partnership with 200 gastroenterologists and eight hospitals. Pamlico's investment will help the company to grow its centers nationwide.
Gap between Medicare payment and practice operating expenses widens to 18% in 10 years.
During the last decade, Medicare's fee-for-service rates have increased 9 percent, while practice operating costs have risen 27 percent. The growth in practice expenses can be seen in a number of areas. Tests ordered have increased 90.9 percent between 2000 and 2011 and imaging volume has increased 78.9 percent.
Metro Health earns CON approval for $13.8M surgery center.
Metro Health filed a certificate of need for Grand Rapids, Mich., surgery center in March and received approval for the $13.8 million project on Aug. 20. The surgery center will have three operating rooms and be located in a currently vacant medical office building.
Wilford Hall Ambulatory Surgical Center physician receives award.
Lt. Col. Chad Hivnor, MD, a physician with Wilford Hall Ambulatory Surgical Center's Dermatology Clinic, has received the 2013 Paul W. Myers Award from the U.S. Air Force Association. Dr. Hivnor received the award for this work treating burns, scars and other medical issues of wounded warriors.
Global ophthalmology device market to be worth $52.6B by 2017.
The global market for ophthalmology drugs and devices is expected to be valued at $52.6 billion by 2017, according to a Markets and Markets report. The market, which suffered a downturn in 2008 and 2009, is expected to steadily rise due to the aging population and a focus on combination drug therapies.
