Here are seven news updates for ambulatory surgery center leaders to know for Nov. 21, 2013.

Proposed Illinois CON rule changes rejected.
The Illinois Joint Commission on Administrative Rules has rejected the proposed certificate of need rule change that would require surgery centers to file a CON application to add a new specialty. The Ambulatory Surgery Center Association of Illinois has opposed the change. ASCAI has reached out to the CON Board to work toward developing rules.

Edward Hospital purchases majority stake in 2 Illinois ASCs.
Edward Hospital & Health Services has purchased majority stakes in Salt Creek Surgery Center in Westmont, Ill., and Midwest Endoscopy Center in Naperville, Ill. Both transactions, a combined total of about $20 million, are expected to close by Dec. 31.

SCA net revenue rises 18%.
Surgical Care Affiliates has announced that its systemwide net operating revenues increased 18 percent in the third quarter of 2013. The company also reported that net patient revenue per case increased 9 percent over the same period last year.

USPI partners with Baylor to open joint venture surgical facility.
United Surgical Partners International, Baylor Health Care System and a group of physicians will jointly own the Baylor Surgical Hospital at Fort Worth in Texas.  The facility will replace Baylor's smaller surgery center. An estimated 75 percent of the procedures performed at the new facility will be outpatient.

New OIG advisory opinion complicates anesthesiologist relationships.

AMA calls for Congress to repeal SGR by end of year.
At the American Medical Association House of Delegates interim meeting, AMA leaders called for Congress to repeal the sustainable growth rate by the end of the year. The SGR is set to reduce physician payment by nearly 25 percent Jan. 1.

Proliance Highlands Surgery Center hosts state Senator.
Proliance Highlands Surgery Center in Issaquah, Wash., recently hosted Washington State Senate Majority Leader Rodney Tom. During his visit, Sen. Tom encouraged CEO Dave Fitzgerald, Executive Director Frank Gilbert and Director of Public Policy Rob Schwartz to connect with the Senate Healthcare Committee.
