Ambulatory surgery center administrators working in the western U.S. earn an average salary of $114,109. ASC administrators in the Midwest earn the lowest average salary at $104,371. Average salary overall is $109,184.

CMS updates ICD-10-PCS codes.
CMS has released an updated "Official ICD-10-PCS Coding Guidelines" document, new code tables and index, which adds four procedure codes for new technologies. ICD-10-PCS will replace ICD-9-CM, volume 3 and ASCs will continue use of CPT codes for procedural coding.

Healthcare Innovation Council declares meaningful use fails to improve healthcare.
The Healthcare Innovation Council, an independent group of healthcare experts, has asked Congress to reconsider the CMS meaningful use program. The group claims that EHR disrupts care, rather than paving the way for improvement. The council calls for Congress to recreate the meaningful use program to include ways that improve the safety and quality of care.  

National Governors Association forms healthcare redesign taskforce.
The National Governors Association has formed the Healthcare Sustainability Task Force, a public policy organization that includes the governors of 55 states, territories and commonwealths. Tennessee Gov. Bill Haslam and Oregon Gov. John Kitzhaber are co-chairs of the organization.

St. Dominic Health abandons attempt to acquire Mississippi ASC.
In 2008, St. Dominic filed a letter of intent to purchase the Madison County Ambulatory Surgery Center for $800,000, but the ASC owner sold to a different buyer after the sale to St. Dominic was not completed in 30 days. After nearly five years of legal struggle, Jackson, Miss.-based St. Dominic Health Systems has abandoned its appeal to the Mississippi Supreme Court for the purchase of the in ASC in Canton, Miss.

Christus Schumpert plans 2 Louisiana ASCs.
Louisiana-based health system Christus Schumpert Health has initiated a plan to shift several departments away from one of its Margaret campus to its Highland campus in Shreveport, La. The health system also intends to build two ambulatory surgery centers in Shreveport and Bossier City, La.

Access MediQuip, WellPoint expand partnership.
Access MediQuip, a surgical and implant management company, has announced an expanded partnership with WellPoint, a health benefits company. According to the new agreement Access MediQuip will provide data transparency, unit cost savings and improved quality and safety management.
