Here are seven news updates for ambulatory surgery center leaders to know for April 17, 2014.

South Carolina to keep CON program.
The South Carolina Supreme Court ruled that the state's certificate of need program was not eliminated when Governor Nikki Haley vetoed the program's funding last year. The court did not specify how the state department of health would secure the necessary funds to run the program.

CMS comments on ICD-10 delay.
The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services broke its silence on the official ICD-10 delay with a brief statement on its website. The statement acknowledges the delay and assures healthcare stakeholder that CMS is "examining the implications" of the delay.

Sanford Health Dickinson Clinic ASC names nurse manager.
Sanford Health Dickinson (N.D.) Clinic ambulatory surgery center has appointed Tania Brost, RN, as its nurse manager. The ASC will offer general surgery and gynecological procedures.

Trinity Endoscopy Center acquires new equipment.
Trinity Endoscopy Center in Steubenville, Ohio, acquired the ManoScan ESO esophageal manometry test. Gastroenterologists Himanshu Desai, MD, and Basel Termanini, MD, will use the new equipment.

April is IBS Awareness Month.
The American Gastroenterological Association announced April is Irritable Bowel Syndrome Awareness Month. The AGA released a brochure for physicians to distribute to patients coping with IBS.

PPACA to increase number of medical malpractice claims.

Spine Institute Northwest surgeon speaks at international conference.
Solomon Kamson, MD, of Spine Institute Northwest in Bothell, Wash., presented at the World Congress of the World Federation of Minimally Invasive Spine Surgery in Turkey. Dr. Kamson spoke on a panel focused on full endoscopic lumbar fusion surgery for outpatient centers.
