7 Things for ASC Leaders to Know for Monday

Here are seven things for ambulatory surgery center leaders to know for Nov. 18, 2103.

Fitchte, Endl & Elmer Eyecare likely to receive approval for freestanding Niagara ASC.
The Public Health and Health Planning Council of the New York Department of Health has the Niagara Ambulatory Surgery Center project on its agenda for Nov. 21. The DOH has given the $2.3 million project preliminary approval. A final ruling will be made Dec. 12.

Medicare Advantage drops 100 Rhode Island physicians.
United Health Care has dropped around 100 Rhode Island physicians from Medicare Advantage plans, including groups that perform procedures at ambulatory surgery centers. Koch Eye Associates, which as the only ophthalmic ambulatory surgery center in the state, was among the groups dropped. Beneficiaries may need to go elsewhere to surgery.

Siouxland Surgery Center joins "preferred provider" network.
Siouxland Surgery Center in Dakota Dunes, S.D., has joined the "preferred providers" network that is a partnership between Coventry Health Care and Siouxland Medical Doctors. The network is designed to provide health insurance coverage to four counties, with a focus on building close relationships between primary care physicians and patients.

Eye Centers of Ohio adds Alcon LenSx technology.
Eye Centers of Ohio in Jackson Township have adopted Alcon LenSx laser technology, which is designed to improve precision during cataract surgery. Eye Centers of Ohio offers cataract, glaucoma, ocular plastic surgery and vitreo-retinal diagnostics.

Buddy Bacon named CEO of MediTract.
Buddy Bacon, the former CEO of Meridian Surgical Partners, has assumed the role of MediTract CEO. MediTract is a large healthcare contract management company.

Dr. Christopher Smith joins Trios Surgery Center.
Anesthesiologist Christopher Smith, MD, has joined Trios Surgery Center in Kennewick, Wash. Dr. Smith previously served as medical director of Pacific Surgery Center in Poulsbo, Wash.

54% of employers shifting healthcare financial responsibility to workers.
A Deloitte Center for Health Solutions 2013 Survey of U.S. Employers has found that 54 percent of employers have initiated cost-sharing strategies to shift financial responsibility to workers in an effort to manage healthcare costs.
