69% of providers expect healthcare legislation to increase outpatient volume.
According to a recent survey, 69 percent of providers expect healthcare legislation to drive patients to the outpatient setting and cause a shift in healthcare costs. Also of the responding providers, 27 percent do not plan to join an accountable care organization.

Compass Surgical Partners obtains interest in Florida ASC.
N.C.-based ambulatory surgery center investment, development and management company Compass Surgical Partners has obtained an equity interest in Bay Area Physicians Surgery Center in Brandon, Fla. Including Bay Area, Compass Surgical has interest in two Florida ASCs.

ASIPP responds to CMS open public comment period on MILD coverage for back pain.
CMS plans to publish a determination on national coverage policy for mild for Medicare Contractors in January 2014. In response to a 30-day period opened for public comment, the American Society for Interventional Pain Physicians sent a letter to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. ASIPP argued for the vital nature of the mild treatment.

Roy Georgia joins Surgical Care Affiliates.
Roy Georgia, ASC industry veteran, has joined Surgical Care Affiliates, a company that operates 150 surgical facilities. In 2002, he founded MEDIBIS, the first business intelligence software technology company to serve the ASC industry. Mr. Georgia's move is a further step in SCA's efforts to develop the industry-leading informatics platform.

Surgery Center Network teams up with Gallagher Healthcare.
Dallas-based Surgery Center Network, an ambulatory surgery center network, has partnered with Gallagher Healthcare. Gallagher Healthcare is a division of the healthcare practitioner malpractice insurance broker Arthur J. Gallagher Risk Management Services. SCN members will have access to Gallagher Healthcare's "Premium Indication Engine" and value-added services.

Minnesota Eye Consultants to build ASC.
Minnesota Eye Consultants have received approval to build a 31,000-square-foot facility in Minnetonka, which will house an ambulatory surgery center, office space and an ophthalmology clinic.

ASCs have an average of 4,714 cases per year.
Ambulatory surgery centers have an average of 4,714 cases per year, according to the VMG Intellimarker survey. An ambulatory surgery center's top five physicians handle 54 percent of the center's entire case volume.
