Here are seven news updates for ambulatory surgery center leaders to know for May 18, 2015.

ASCA elects 6 board members this year
These six people will serve three-year terms. The three members re-elected are:

1. Cindy Young, administrative director of the Surgery Center of Farmington (Mo.)
2. Stan Plavin, MD, founding member of Ambulatory Anesthesia of Atlanta
3. Larry Taylor, president and CEO of Practice Partners in Healthcare

The three new members of the board of directors are:

4. Linda Nash, CASC, administrator and risk manager for Manatee Surgical Center
5. Janie Kinsey, CASC, administrator of Saint Luke's Surgicenter-Lee's Summit
6. Ann Shimek, senior vice president clinical operations of United Surgical Partners International

DISC Sports & Spine Center signs in-network agreement with Anthem Blue Cross
DISC Sports & Spine Center in Marina del Rey, Calif., signed an in-network network agreement with Anthem Blue Cross, the largest commercial payer in California, which will include both of its ambulatory surgery centers: Diagnostic and Interventional Surgical Center and DISC Surgery Center at Newport Beach. DISC began negotiations with Anthem Blue Cross in 2013. The finalization of the agreement was pushed forward with help from the center's partner Surgical Care Affiliates.

Gramercy Surgery Center opens new location in Queens market
The new 11,000-square-foot facility in Queens, N.Y., houses two Class C operating rooms, two Class B operating rooms and a 10-bed recovery room. It is expected to provide more than 50 jobs and have a $20 million impact on the community. The multispecialty surgery center offers bariatrics, general surgery, ENT, gynecology, interventional radiology, orthopedics, pain management, plastics, podiatry, urology and more. Gramercy Healthcare Management manages the surgery center's New York and Queens locations.

Bergenfield Surgical Center opens in New Jersey
The ASC includes orthopedic surgery, podiatry, pain management, gynecology, otolaryngology and pain management. There are four preoperative stations, three operating rooms, one procedure room and six recovery beds in the accredited center. The center was built last year and became fully licensed in early 2015.

5 AmSurg centers receive AAAHC accreditation
1. The GI Endoscopy Center in Middleton, Ohio.
2. Harford Endoscopy Center in Bel Air, MD.
3. Louisiana Endoscopy Center in Baton Rouge.
4. Sun Coast Endoscopy Center in Inverness, Fla.
5. Surgery Center of South Central Kansas in Hutchinson.

Montefiore Health System opens new eye surgery center
Montefiore Health System, based in the Bronx, N.Y., has opened a new eye surgery center at its Westchester Square Campus. Montefiore's department of ophthalmology and visual sciences opened the new center at the Westchester campus, and the facility has five operating rooms, each equipped with the same technology. The eye surgery center will host procedures including cataract surgery, retinal surgery, advanced cornea surgeries, amniotic membrane patch grafting and more.
