Here are seven news updates for ambulatory surgery center leaders to know for May 11, 2015.

Elite Surgical Center has added two new bariatric procedures
The surgery center is now offering endoscopic primary obesity surgery endolumenal and the endoscopic sleeve gastroplasty. The POSE procedure allows surgeons to enter the GI tract orally and reduce the stomach size. The ESG procedure also allows endoscopic oral access to the GI tract, but surgeons suture a portion of the stomach.

CHOP to open $65M facility with ASC
The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia will open its $65 million specialty medical building, including an ambulatory surgery center in King of Prussia, Pa., on May 18, according to a Philadelphia Business Journal report. The 135,000-square-foot building is a replacement facility for two existing CHOP health center buildings nearby.

USPI net revenue jumps 9% in Q1 amid Tenet transaction
USPI reported a 9 percent increase in net revenues to $158.1 million over the same period last year. The operating income increased 17 percent to $55.8 million in the first quarter of 2015. Tenet Healthcare will own 50.1 percent of the venture and will consolidate financial results. Tenet is also on track to take full ownership of the company over the next five years. The FDA approves IONSYS by The Medicines Company
IONSYS is the first needle-free, patient-controlled, pre-programmed fentanyl delivery system and is intended for the short-term management of acute postoperative pain in adult patients. The medication also allows patients recovering from surgery in the hospital to control their analgesic dosing by pushing a button to dispense fentanyl transdermally via an imperceptible electrical current as needed for pain.

The Joint Commission to accredit US Air Force's ambulatory healthcare facilities
As of July 2015, the facilities will undergo a rigorous on-site survey where the surveyors will evaluate compliance with ambulatory standards related to a variety of areas, including infection prevention and control, leadership, medication management and patient education. The U.S. Air Force has 62 ambulatory facilities worldwide that The Joint Commission will accredit.

Dr. Afsar Waraich opens Palmetto Gastroenterology & Hepatology
