Alabama Governor revises CON law for easier transactions.
Alabama Governor Robert Bentley has signed revisions for the state's certificate of need law, making ownership exchanges easier and expanding CON provisions to limited liability companies.

CMS clarifies unspecified codes and use of ICD-10 external cause.
CMS has released clarification of external causes of morbidity codes, which will replace ICD-9-CM E-codes, and unspecified codes. ICD-10 will contain less unspecified codes than ICD-9, but CMS states if not enough clinical information is know an unspecified code may be appropriate.

AAAHC accredits Orthopaedic Associates.
The Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care has accredited the Orthopaedic Associates in Spartanburg, S.C.

Joint venture Northwoods Surgery Center to open in Minnesota.
Fairview in Hibbing and Bridget Sundell, MD, have announced plans to open the joint venture, multispecialty Northwoods Surgery Center in Virginia, Minn.

Red Cross honors director of surgical services at Bucci Eye Surgery Center.
Loretta Amico, director of surgical services at Bucci Eye Surgery in Wilkes-Barre, Pa., will receive the Red Cross Adult Good Samaritan Award. Ms. Amico administered CPR and used a defibrillator to aid a man who lost consciousness during church services.

Medical Facilities Corporation elects 8 new directors.
Medical Facilities Corporation has elected eight new directors including Larry L. Teuber, MD; Gil Faclier, MD; Donald Schellpfeffer, MD; Seymour Temkin; John T. Perri; Marilynne Day-Linton; Irving R. Gerstein and Alan J. Dilworth.

MEDNAX acquires Anesthesia Specialists of Houston.
MEDNAX, based in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., has acquired Anesthesia Specialists of Houston. The MEDNAX American Anesthesiology division includes more than 650 physicians and 950 anesthetists in eight states.
