Here are seven news update — from the latest on sequestration to ASC advocacy efforts — for ambulatory surgery center leaders to know for Feb. 17, 2014.

Senate passes bill extending sequestration.
Last week, the Senate passed legislation that pays for the reversal of a $6 billion cut to military pensions by extending sequestration by one year to 2024. Assemblyman Lou Greenwald visits The Endo Center at Voorhees.
Lou Greenwald, the Assembly Majority Leader for the New Jersey Assembly, recently visited The Endo Center at Voorhees (N.J.). Administrator Andrew Weiss said Assemblyman Greenwald discussed issues impacting ASCs during the visit.

Eye Center of Central PA prepared for MU Stage 2.
The Eye Center of Central PA has the Medflow EHR version 8.1, which meets 2014 Meaningful Use Certification. The center is now prepared to report for Stage 2 Meaningful Use.

Orthopedic Associates to open surgery center in Hawaii.
Orthopedic Associates plans to open a 9,200-square-foot surgery center in a medical office building in Honolulu. The new center, Minimally Invasive Surgery Hawaii, will include three operating rooms.

U.S. House of Representatives calls for RAC reform.
In a letter to Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius 111 members of the U.S. House of Representatives called for the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services to reform the Recovery Audit Contractor process.

Atlanta Vision Institute adds new diagnostic testing.
Atlanta Vision Institute, an Atlanta LASIK center, now offers ocular allergy testing for patients. Farooq Ashraf, MD, FACS, is the medical director of Atlanta Vision Institute.

Central Maine Orthopaedics promotes marketing and public affairs representative.
Central Maine Orthopaedics has named Marketing and Public Affairs Representative Kelly David its new marketing and public relations manager. In her new role, Ms. David is responsible for marketing and communications strategy at Central Maine Orthopaedics.
