Here are seven news updates for ambulatory surgery center leaders to know for April 14, 2014.

Kathleen Sebelius to step down as HHS secretary.
Last week, Kathleen Sebelius resigned as HHS secretary. Her resignation came less than two weeks after the end of the first open enrollment period for the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act exchanges. Read the full report on Becker's Hospital Review.

ASC-8: healthcare personnel vaccination reporting enrollment open.
The Center for Disease Control's Operational Guidance for ASCs was recently released. The guidance covers the collection and reporting for ASC-8, Influenza Vaccination Coverage Among Health Care Personnel, which is part of the Medicare ASC Quality Reporting Program.

Scotland County Hospital Surgery Center acquires new endoscopy technology.
The Scotland County Hospital Surgery Center in Memphis, Mo., acquired the Pentax i-Scan Image enhancement, flexible endoscopy imaging technology.

Kaledia Health, physician joint venture ASC denied CON.
A New York State Health Department denied Kaleida Health and its physician partners a certificate of need for a $2.66 million surgery center plan. The project faced opposition from several nearby hospitals and health systems.

CMS remains silent on ICD-10 delay.
The ICD-10 implementation delay became official on April 1, but the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services has yet to issue a response. The American Health Information Management Association requested information from CMS on the technical issues associated with the now extended deadline, but has not received a response yet.

PPACA enrollees exhibit above average medication usage.

AAAHC accredits Pinehurst Surgical Center.
The Pinehurst (N.C.) Surgical Center earned accreditation from the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Healthcare. The surgery center is a joint venture between Nueterra and First Health of the Carolinas.
