7 Hospitals & Health Systems Opening or Planning Ambulatory Surgery Centers

Here are seven hospitals and health systems that are opening or currently planning to open ambulatory surgery centers.

Akron (Ohio) Children's Hospital has initiated a $200 million expansion project that includes an outpatient surgery center.

Geisinger Health System intends to complete the addition of a four-operating room ambulatory surgery center at its Gray's Wood Facility in Patton Township, Pa., in February.

Kaleida Health intends to build a $2.7 million, freestanding ambulatory surgery center in Orchard Park, N.Y. Construction on the 16,082-square-foot center is expected to begin in the first half of 2014.

New York Methodist Hospital plans to build an eight-story outpatient care building in Park Slope. The building would include a 12-operating room outpatient surgery center and six-procedure room endoscopy suite.

Olympic Medical Center has taken out a $20 million loan to finance an expansion project, which includes a 22,500-square-foot surgery center in Sequim, Wash. Construction is expected to begin in 2015.

St. Luke's Health System, based in Boise, Idaho, opened a $12 million surgery center on its Meridian campus. The surgery center has two operating rooms and the ability to add four more ORs.

Via Christi Hospital in Wichita, Kan., has made progress on its surgery center project. Ground was broken on the project in November 2012 and after temporary setbacks, construction has begun again.
