Bisnow's 4th Annual New York Healthcare Summit was hosted last week. Here are five important issues in healthcare real estate discussed at the meeting, according to a Bisnow report.
• The outpatient setting. Healthcare is migrating from the hospital setting to the outpatient setting. Hospitals and health systems are growing more interested in utilizing outpatient and ambulatory care spaces.
• Growth management. Sales, as well as acquisitions, are an important part of growth management. Which properties should be kept as part of a growth strategy and which should be sold?
• Maintaining facilities. An important part of real estate value is its upkeep. Does a facility look modern or is it outdated?
• Sustainability. Going green is becoming a large trend in real estate. Many developers are focusing on projects that will earn LEED certification.
• Weathering the storm. Severe weather can have a significant impact on financials. Hospitals and health systems need to take this factor into account when considering real estate investments.
