Around 17 percent of ophthalmologists are participating in accountable care organizations and another 9 percent plan to this year, according to the Medscape Ophthalmologist Compensation Report 2014.
In the 2013 report, only 8 percent of ophthalmologists were participating in an ACO and 6 percent planned to. Over the past year, the number of ophthalmologists participating in ACOs or planning to participate has grown 12 percent.
The report also shows 4 percent of ophthalmologists have a cash-only practice and 2 percent have a concierge practice.
