Data from the AMA Physician Masterfile and was presented in the Association of American Medical Colleges' 2013 State Physician Workforce Data Book shows the top 10 states for physician retention:

1. Hawaii — 85.8 percent
2. Arkansas — 80.6 percent
3. Texas — 80.4 percent
4. California — 80.1 percent
5. Nevada — 79.1 percent
6. Florida — 77.8 percent
7. Mississippi — 76.8 percent
8. Indiana — 76.8 percent
9. South Carolina — 76.5 percent
10. South Dakota — 76.5 percent
