Reaching Out: 4 ASC Industry Leaders Involved With Their Communities

Here are four ambulatory surgery center leaders who have made efforts to serve their communities as well as advocate for the ASC industry.

Preston Bain. Mr. Bain is the regional vice president of operations at Symbion. He is involved with the community in his personal time and serves on the Park Board for the City of Brentwood, Tenn., the Traveller's Rest Plantation Board of Directors and on the Brentwood Blaze Youth Football Board of Directors. He is also a past president of the Brentwood Morning Rotary Club. He volunteers as a 5th Grade history teacher in local elementary schools, and he wrote and published a quarterly historical newsletter for the Brentwood Historic Society.

Joan Dentler. Ms. Dentler is the president and CEO of Avanza Healthcare Strategies, formerly known as ASC Strategies. She has been active in her community throughout her career and spent the first 15 years of her career working on the U.S.-Mexico border in maternal/child health services and developing and operating population health management programs. She continues to be involved in her community in a number of ways, including volunteering as a "buddy" at a "Meals on Wheels" Alzheimer's respite center and providing case management support at Caritas of Austin (Texas), which is a provider of services for those experiencing poverty that begins with a safety net and links them to resources to achieve self-sufficiency. She also serves as a partner in Innovation+, which matches human and financial capital with social innovation. This holiday season, she led a toy drive for the children who come to the Caritas Community Kitchen.

Rosalie Einspahr, MSN/FNP. Ms. Einspahr serves as director of operations at Lakewood, Colo.-based Pinnacle III, where she heads operations for Boulder (Colo.) Surgery Center. She was the president of the Colorado Ambulatory Surgery Center Association from 2006 to 2008. She continues her participation in CASCA as a member of the board of directors. Ms. Einspahr participated in Ambulatory Surgery Center Association's DC Fly-in where participants met with congressional representatives to educate them on the importance of ASCs in the healthcare system. Prior to joining Pinnacle III, Ms. Einspahr served as COO of Spine One. She has also fulfilled the roles of director of operations and administrator in several other surgery centers in Colorado.

John S. Jachimiak, DPM. Dr. Jachimiak is a podiatric surgeon practicing with Foot & Ankle Care of Boulder (Colo.) County. He also performs procedures at Pinnacle III-managed Boulder (Colo.) Surgery Center. He is a member of the Boulder Community Musculoskeletal Surgery Center Medical Advisory Committee and the center's board of directors. As an active member of the American Podiatric Medical Association and Colorado Podiatric Medical Association, he participates in committees regarding podiatric health and best practices. Dr. Jachimiak also advocates for the ASC community through the Colorado Ambulatory Surgery Association and Ambulatory Surgery Center Association. He recently met with congressional representatives in Washington, D.C., to educate them on the importance of ASCs.
