9 ambulatory surgery centers focused on spine

Here are nine ambulatory surgery centers focused on spine surgery.

Crane Creek Surgery Center (Melbourne, Fla.). Crane Creek Surgery Center is a 14,000-square-foot facility with four operating rooms and two procedure rooms. The Blue Chip Surgical Partners-affiliated center includes orthopedics, otolaryngology, general surgery, pain management and urology in addition to spine procedures. There are eight physicians involved with the center, including President of The BACK Center Richard Hynes, MD, and chairman of the department of orthopedics at Holmes Regional Medical Center Devin Datta, MD.

Eastwind Surgical (Westerville, Ohio). Established in 2007, Eastwind Surgical is a 10,350-square-foot surgical facility located within the Central Ohio Neurological Surgeons medical office building. Meridian Surgical Partners acquired majority interest in the center in 2011. Equipped with one operating room and two procedure rooms, Eastwind Surgical is the only ASC in Ohio to offer the Axis Jackson Surgical Table to make spine and neck surgeries less invasive and reduce recovery time. The ASC includes seven physician owners.

GNS Surgery Center (Athens, Ga.). This 8,000-square-foot surgery center is completely spine-focused. It has two operating rooms and is affiliated with Blue Chip Surgical Center Partners. The Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care accredited the facility, which also has Medicare certification. Five physicians are affiliated with GNS Surgery Center focused on spinal surgery and injections.

Microsurgical Spine Center (Puyallup, Wash.). Richard Wohns, MD, JD, MBA, is medical director of Microsurgical Spine Center, an ambulatory surgery center focused on neck and back pain treatment. Physicians perform minimally invasive spine surgery, artificial disc replacement and pain management procedures at the center, which is affiliated with Symbion. Five surgeons from the practice NeoSpine perform cases at the center, which has accreditation from the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care.

North Meridian Surgery Center (Carmel, Ind.). Spine and pain management-focused North Meridian Surgery Center does approximately 10,000 procedures per year. The center has been in business for more than 20 years and has achieved AAAHC accreditation. This freestanding, physician-owned center includes surgeons from The Indiana Spine Group, Orthopedics Indianapolis and Goodman Campbell. Julie Berzins is the director and CEO of the surgery center, which moved into a new facility she helped design specifically for the needs of spine patients in 2011.

Parkway Neuroscience & Spine Institute (Hagerstown, Md.). This one operating room, one procedure room ambulatory surgery center includes four neurosurgeons, one neurologist and seven physiatrists. The center also includes physical therapists and chiropractors. Physicians perform several procedures at the center, including radiofrequency ablation, spinal fusion, discectomy and spinal cord stimulators. Parkway is affiliated with Blue Chip Surgical Partners.

St. Louis Spine Surgery Center. This 6,700-square-foot facility includes outpatient minimally invasive spine surgery, neurosurgery and pain management. Its two operating rooms were specifically designed for outpatient procedures and include state-of-the-art equipment and technology. The center opened in late 2007 and Meridian Surgical Partners became an acquisition partner in February 2012. Surgeons perform several procedures at the ASC, including anterior cervical fusion, lumbar discectomy and laminectomy, minimally invasive spine surgery, synovial cyst resection, lumbar transforaminal interbody fusion and spinal cord stimulators.

Two Rivers Surgical Center (Eugene, Ore.). Two Rivers Surgical Center is a 7,911-square-foot facility designed specifically for outpatient spine procedures. The ASC opened in July 2006 and Meridian Surgical Partners became an acquisition partner in September 2008. The two-operating room ASC includes both neurosurgery and pain management and has an efficient workflow. The center is accredited by the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care and is a member of ASCA. Six physician owners have stake in the center.

West Park Surgery Center (Cape Girardeau, Mo.). Surgeons at West Park Surgery Center perform outpatient anterior cervical discectomy and fusion, laminectomy, microdiscectomy, carpal tunnel, ulnar nerve transposition and pain management procedures. The center is in association with the physicians form the Brain & NeuroSpine Clinic of Missouri and affiliated with Blue Chip Surgical Partners. There are five physicians at the surgery center who believe in a multidisciplinary approach to spine care. Scott Gibbs, MD, was president of the center when it opened in 2011.
