7 ASCs with recovery care relationships

Here are seven ambulatory surgery centers that work with recovery care centers or have a partnership with an inn that acts as a extended care center.

Musculoskeletal Surgery Center (Thornton, Colo.). The surgery center has a relationship with a recovery care center that is designed to accommodate patients for up to 72 hours, if the physician decides that round-the-clock observation is necessary. Founded in 2001, the ASC performs procedures in orthopedics, podiatry and pain management. It features three preoperative stations, two operating rooms and two minor procedure rooms.

Peoria (Ill.) Day Surgery Center. The ASC includes a recovery care center that can hold postoperative patients for as long as 48 hours. The center entered a state pilot program in the 1990s that allowed four ASCs in Illinois to build recovery care centers. The facility is licensed with the state of Illinois, certified by Medicare and accredited by the Accreditation Association of Ambulatory Health Care. It provides care in a wide array of specialties, including ENT, general surgery, ophthalmology, orthopedics, pain management, podiatry and spine surgery.

Rockwall (Texas) Surgery Center. The surgery center includes provisions to accommodate extended recovery care patients. The facility features three operating room and one procedure room. It is accredited by The Joint Commission, and offers treatment in numerous specialties, such as endoscopy, ENT, general surgery, gynecology, orthopedic surgery and pain management.

Spine Surgery Center of Eugene (Ore.). The surgery center has had a relationship the bed-and-breakfast Excelsior Inn for extended recovery care patients for five years.

"We see many patients from out of the Eugene area. Our doctors do not want them to drive long distances right after their surgeries. So this enables us to do the surgery and keep them nearby for post-op pain control and/or any other post-op problem that might occur," says Evalyn Cole, administrator.

The surgery center was opened in 2007. It is accredited by the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care and certified by Medicare. It includes two spine surgeons and two physician assistants.

St. Joseph's Outpatient Surgery Center (Phoenix). The surgery center has a recovery care center that features semi-private accommodations. The center also includes eight operating rooms and two treatment rooms. Its physicians provide care in a number of specialties, including oral surgery, ENT, gynecology, ophthalmology, orthopedics, podiatry and urology. It is accredited by The Joint Commission.

Summit Surgery Center (Flagstaff, Ariz.). The surgery center includes a recovery care center with five private and semi-private rooms and 24-hour nursing care. The Medicare-licensed ASC offers procedures on orthopedics, sports medicine, spine care and pain management. It includes more than 15 physicians.

Valley Ambulatory Surgery Center (Charles, Ill.). The surgery center includes Valley Medical Inn, a postsurgical recovery care center for patients who require up to 72 hours of nursing care, pain management or observation services. Valley Medical Inn, opened in 1998, is accredited by the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care and is licensed by the Illinois Department of Public Health. The ASC was established in 1987, and it offers surgical services in numerous specialties, such as orthopedics, plastic surgery, gynecology, nephrology, neurology, oral surgery, cardiology and spine care.
