5 ASCs investing in new GI/endoscopy technology

Here are five surgery centers that have acquired new technology for  gastroenterlogy/endoscopy procedures.

Gadsden (Ala.) Endoscopy Center. The surgery center recently acquired the HALO/Barrx system, a system that uses ablation technology in which thermal energy is delivered in a precise and highly controlled manner, according to a report by The Messenger. Barrx ablation technology can help treat Barrett's Esophagus by removing diseased esophageal tissue without damaging the normal tissue below.

Gadsden Endoscopy Center is a part of Gadsden-based Riverview Regional Medical Center, a Joint Commission-accredited, acute-care hospital.

Greenwood (S.C.) Endoscopy Center. The surgery center has bought the EVIS EXERA III-190 series endoscopes from Olympus. The scopes were acquired as part of a $1 million overhaul project, according to a Becker's ASC Review report. The surgery center is a part of the Greenwood, S.C.-based Digestive Disease Group physician practice. It is accredited by the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care, and it offers a wide array of surgical procedures, including colonoscopy, upper GI endoscopy, capsule endoscopy, endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography and endoscopic ultrasound. It includes a staff of five board-certified gastroenterologists.

Jacksonville (Fla.) Beach Surgery Center. The Symbion-affiliated surgery center recently acquired the Fuse Endoscopy System from EndoChoice, which has three cameras that provide a 330 degree viewing range. Traditional scopes, on the other hand, provide a 170 degree viewing range. The center is the first in the state of Florida to acquire the system, according to a Becker's ASC Review report.

Opened in 2001, the surgery center four operating rooms and one procedure room. It offers surgical services in a wide array of specialties, such as ENT, gynecology, gastroenterology, ophthalmology, oral surgery, orthopedics, pain management, podiatry and urology. It is certified by Medicare and accredited by the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care.

Scotland County Hospital Surgery Center (Memphis, Mo.). The surgery center has acquired the Pentax i-Scan Image Enhancement technology, which is designed to provide physicians with high-definition images of the gastrointestinal tract, according to a Becker's ASC Review report.

The surgery center, which is a part of Memphis, Mo.-based Scotland County Hospital, includes eight physicians providing care in ENT, gynecology, podiatry, general surgery and orthopedics.

Trinity Endoscopy Center (Steubenville, Ohio). The surgery center recently bought the ManoScan ESO esophageal manometry test, which is used assess pressure and motor function of the esophagus. The endoscopy center is a part of Steubenville, Ohio-based Trinity Health System. It provides outpatient care for conditions of the esophagus, stomach, small intestine and colon.
