Here are 10 ENT-driven ASCs to know.

Valley Surgery Center (Steubenville, Ohio). Opened in July 2002, the Valley Surgery Center is owned by a group of 14 local surgeons who partnered with Symbion Healthcare in Sept. 2004. The facility features three ORs and one procedure room. Valley Surgery Center has 28 credentialed physicians who offer medical services in ENT as well as ophthalmology, orthopedics, general surgery, podiatry, gynecology, plastics, urology and pain management. Administrator Tammy Lemasters says part of the center's success is attributed to offering image-guided sinus surgery, a service that is not widely available in the community. www.valleysurgerycenter.com

ENT Facial Surgery Center (Fresno, Calif.). ENT Facial Surgery Center is a single-specialty center committed to the needs of both pediatric and adult patients. The staff comprises a group of otolaryngologists and aesthetic plastic surgeons who practice outpatient care. Board-certified anesthesiologists also work alongside the center's specialists. The center conducts pre-operative screening for patient safety, including a pre-operative interview, and intra-operative monitoring to ensure smooth post-operative results. www.ccent.com

Meadows Surgery Center (Rutherford, N.J.). This 7,500-square-foot surgery center features two operating rooms and a staff of five physicians specializing in the treatment and surgery of ENT disorders. Board-certified anesthesiologists from Morris Anesthesia Associates work with the surgery center's staff to help with patient care. Central Park Surgery Center (Arlington, Texas). Central Park Surgery Center has been open since 2006 and is accredited by AAAHC. The staff consists of 14 surgeons, seven of which specialize in otolaryngology. The 9,600-square-foot center has two ORs and 65 percent of its cases are in ENT. Spokane Ear, Nose & Throat Surgery Center (Spokane, Wash.). Spokane ENT's surgery center opened 10 years ago as a part of Spokane Ear Nose and Throat Clinic. Since then the ASC has grown to average 3,200 cases annually the last two fiscal years, with patients seen from three states. The facility is used by 11 physician-owners and one employed physician, all of whom are board certified. The practice also includes an advanced registered nurse practictioner and nine audiologists, including five Ph.D. audiologists. The ENT Center of Rhode Island (Warwick, R.I.). The ENT Center of Rhode Island has been providing otolaryngological care since July 2008 and has an estimated case volume of 5,000 cases per year. The center has 25 physician-owners and features five ORs over a 15,000-square-foot area. Sinus Surgery Center (Fort Dodge, Iowa). The Sinus Surgery Center, which is owned by F.E. Gonzalez, MD, has been performing approximately 300 sinus cases annually since 2001. As a surgery center completely dedicated to sinus procedures, it offers a wide variety of services including ossicular reconstruction, turbinate reduction surgery and endoscopic sinus surgery. St. John's Clinic: Head & Neck Surgery (Springfield, Mo.). St. John's Clinic is the only ASC totally dedicated to the ENT specialty in the state of Missouri and is part of the larger Sisters of Mercy Health System that includes nine hospitals. The facility, which is part of the larger Mercy Health Care System, provides care for patients in southwest Missouri, southeast Kansas and northern Arkansas. The staff includes four surgeons, six RNs and four surgery technicians. The facility itself houses one surgery suite. Lynda Simon, RN, OR manager at St. John's, attributes the success of the ASC to its commitment to customer service. ENT Surgery Center (Savannah, Ga.). ENT Surgery Center is an AAAHC-accredited facility that averages 600-850 cases annually. As an ASC that is 100-percent dedicated to the practice of otolaryngology, the facility features two ORs and six recovery beds to accommodate patients. There are three physician-owners at the ASC. Among some of the services the facility's physicians are able to offer are treatments of the nose and sinus, vocal cord paralysis and swallowing disorders, vertigo and dizziness, sleep apnea and ear infections. Annapolis Ear, Nose and Throat Surgical Center (Annapolis, Md.). The Annapolis ENT Surgical Center is a single-specialty, Joint Commission-accredited surgical suite that exclusively uses anesthesiologists who are specialized in ENT, according to the ASC's website. The facility is owned and operated by physicians of Annapolis Ear, Nose, Throat and Allergy Associates.
