Only 64% of organizations say leadership practices are up to par — 5 takeaways

Leadership is often a distinguishing factor between top-performing organizations and their mediocre-performing counterparts. A Brandon Hall Group's State of Leadership Development 2015 study found many organizations report their leadership development practices are insufficient, according to training magazine.

Here are five takeaways:

1. Thirty-six percent of those surveyed said their leadership development practices are below average or poor.

2. Thirty-four percent said these practices are average at their respective organizations.

3. Only 31 percent of organizations said their leadership development practices are exceptional or above average.

4. Despite these figures, 41 percent said they understand the importance of defining leadership requirements. However, only 8 percent reported taking the time to define their organization's specific leadership requirements.

5. Seventy-seven percent said their leadership strategy did not fall in line with their business strategy and 71 percent said their leaders are not ready to propel their organizations forward.
