Google now searching for top healthcare talent

Google's parent company Alphabet is aggressively recruiting top talent from the healthcare industry to innovate with GV — formally Google Ventures — and CapitalG — formerly Google Capital, according to CNBC.

Alphabet subsidiary Sidewalk Labs, which is focused on solving urban problems with technology, posted a listing for healthcare positions in the past month. Calico, an Alphabet subsidiary focused on longevity, and Google's life sciences arm, Verily, have already begun recruiting from the healthcare field. Former Genetech CEO and Apple Chairman Arthur D. Levinson now heads Calico and the previous head of the National Institute of Mental Health Tom Insel has joined Verily.

The positions Alphabet is looking to fill include:

• Computational biologists
• Robotics experts
• Academic researchers

The various companies are also partnering with healthcare industry giants, including Verily's partnership with Johnson & Johnson, GlaxoSmithKline and Sanofi.

Alphabet is able to offer top dollar for the best talent, which some feel puts startups at a disadvantage; however, others feel the competition is a "net positive" as it raises the value for experts in the field.
