Judge Refuses Federal Request for Delay of Health Reform Lawsuits
A federal judge in Florida has refused to grant the federal government further time to respond to 20 states' challenge of the health reform law, according to a report by Legal Newsline.
The federal government now has until June 17 to file a motion to dismiss the lawsuits, which challenge a requirement that individuals who do not purchase health insurance pay a $695 penalty each year.
The federal government has already filed a motion to dismiss a Virginia lawsuit, which is similar but cites a state law prohibiting the federal requirement.
