CMS Chief Could Face Hearings Despite Recess Appointment
Both Congressional and Senate Republican leaders are calling for hearings with the new Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services Chief Donald Berwick, MD, despite his appointment by President Obama during a Congressional recess, bypassing the traditional nomination process, according to a report by American Medical News.
Republican members of the House Ways and Means Committee requested a hearing with Dr. Berwick, and it is expected that the Senate Finance Committee will follow suit, according to the report.
Dr. Berwick will likely to asked to testify on how he plans to lead CMS in the coming years and how he plans to implement key changes under healthcare reform.
