'World's Smallest' Endoscopic Camera Under Development

An endoscopic camera even tinier than those currently on the market shows great promise in its development phase, according to a release by Medigus.

Medigus, an endoscopy medical device company, is developing the "world's smallest" endoscopic camera using technologies like TSV ("through silicon via"), a packaging material, and a 0.18-micron CMOS image sensor process.

The tiny camera, being developed in conjunction with TowerJazz, can be used for cardiology, bronchoscopy, gastroenterology, gynecology and orthopedic and robotic surgery. Because it is disposable, there is no need for the sterilization procedures commonly associated with endoscopic procedures.

Medigus will begin supplying samples of the camera for cardiology procedures. The company intends to eventually integrate the camera into other endoscopy products.
