Valeant to acquire Salix for $14.5B, Boston Scientific to acquire Endo International device unit, Exact Sciences gets $9M tax incentive & more – 9 GI/endoscopy company key notes

Here are nine recent news updates on gastroenterology and endoscopy companies.

Actavis reported strong fourth quarter 2014 results. Net revenue was $4.01 billion for the quarter, up 44 percent from $2.78 billion in the fourth quarter of 2013. For the full year 2014, net revenue increased 48 percent to $12.8 billion, compared to net revenue of $8.7 billion for last year.

Boston Scientific plans to acquire Endo International's AMS medical device unit. The transaction could be finalized within the next few weeks, according to a Reuters report.

Boston Scientific received expanded FDA 510(k) clearance for its Resolution Clip designed for hemostasis, endoscopic marking, closure and anchoring jejunal feeding tubes. The company also launched its Advantix Pancreatic Stent, NaviFlex RX Pancreatic Delivery System, NaviFlex Pushers and Advantix Pancreatic Stent Kits.

Check-Cap, an Israel-based capsule endoscopy company, announced the closing of its initial public offering of two million units and a private placement of two million units. The aggregate proceeds of the company's IPO and private placement were $24 million.

The Wisconsin Economic Development Corp. offered Madison, Wis.-based Exact Sciences $9 million in tax credits if the company creates at least 750 jobs and capital investment of $26 million by 2020.

Ferring Pharmaceuticals announced the European launch of CORTIMENTMMX (budesonide) for active mild-to-moderate ulcerative colitis.

RD Biomed is planning to launch a study in China to assess the effectiveness of its Peptest, a diagnostic device for reflux disease.

After vying with companies such as Shire and Endo International, Valeant Pharmaceuticals will acquire Salix Pharmaceuticals. Valeant will acquire gastrointestinal drug company Salix for $14.5 billion, or $158 per share.

Takeda Pharmaceutical and Queen Mary University of London in England announced a major research collaboration that aims to develop new insights and therapies in gastroenterology.
