Two L.A. Surgery Centers Cease Lap-Band Surgeries Following Lawsuit, FDA Scrutiny
Two Los Angeles-area surgery centers have announced they will cease all Lap-Band surgeries following a pending lawsuit and warning letters from the FDA, according to a Los Angeles Daily News report.
Valley Surgical Center in West Hills and New Life Surgery Center in Beverly Hills are two of the eight facilities targeted by a pending lawsuit filed on behalf of patients and two employees. The plaintiffs allege negligent medical practices, the use of outdated and unsterilized equipment and fraud, among other complaints.
The eight centers, owned by bothers Julian and Michael Omidi, are linked to the controversial 1-800-GET-THIN marketing campaign, which has come under scrutiny by the FDA for allegedly misleading customers about the Lap-Band.
