Schizophrenic son of gastroenterologist Dr. William Wu found guilty of stabbing him: 5 notes

The son of gastroenterologist William Wu, MD, who attacked him with a pair of knives on Nov. 24, 2015, was found guilty but insane by a Lane County Circuit judge, according to a report by The Register-Guard.

Here are five notes:

1. Dr. Wu, of Springfield, Ore.-based Eugene Gastroenterology Consultants, was stabbed by his 24-year-old son and sustained multiple injuries.

2. Dr. Wu and his wife stated in court that they love their son and "look forward to his improvement and recovery," according to the report.

3. According to Mr. Nicholas Taylor Wu's attorney, doctors who evaluated him found that Mr. Wu had committed the attack while "being affected by symptoms of schizophrenia."

4. Mr. Nicholas Taylor Wu will be sent to the Oregon State Hospital in Salem. The state Psychiatric Security Review Board will oversee him for up to 20 years.

5. Dr. Wu has been in private practice since 1994, and his professional interests include prevention and early detection of colorectal cancer and performance of challenging endoscopic procedures.
