New drug shows potential in fighting C. diff: 4 notes

A new drug has been developed to treat the "superbug," Clostridium difficile, according to a NBC News report.

Here are four notes:

1. The new drug interferes with a toxin that C. diff creates.

2. Tests in mice suggest it can stop C. diff from damaging the inside of the intestine.

3. The lead compound in the drug is ebselen, which has been tested in humans.

4. The drug is not an antibiotic and can be taken as a pill.
