The use of menthol spray during colonoscopy has been shown to improve adenoma detection rate and reduce colonic peristalsis during the procedure, according to a Gastroenterology & Endoscopy News report.
A recent study found that menthol improved ADR by 30 percent and reduced peristalsis by approximately 40 percent.
"This approach using L-menthol spray can be adopted into our practices immediately. It's easy to obtain and yields impressive outcomes without increasing costs," said Colleen Schmitt, MD, FASGE, president of the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, according of the report.
